May, Where did you Go?

Where did May go? I can't believe this is my only post for May; talk about slacking! Here is a brief pictorial of where the month has gone for us:

Our annual family reunion at the coast. This is probably the last reunion for awhile for my husband's nephew as he will be joining the Airforce in August. He is the cool one with the sunglasses. We are standing in front of his brand new car and kayak that he won on The Price is Right! He was the showcase winner that day!

A sweet 17th birthday for my beautiful niece.

A surprise 25th Wedding Anniversary celebration for her parents. Can you believe these two have been married for 25 years? They do not look anything like the pictures of the couples on 25th anniversary cards. Their oldest daughter will be getting married in July. It is so hard to believe.

Two confirmations; the first was my niece. Her sponsor is my oldest sister.

The second is my nephew. He is my oldest sister's son and my brother in law is his sponsor.

We had a graduation of my sweet little girl. It is only preschool, but to her it might as well have been college! She was so excited about all the songs she was going to sing to us.

We had a Spring Fling on the hottest day of the year so far! It started at 5:45pm and it was outside. My son did a wonderful job doing a traditional Filipino dance. We were all melting by the time it was over so we went and had an SOS. It made it all worth it.

We made a quick trip to Papa's cabin to open it for the season. We did get to stay 3 days and 2 nights, which were not enough! I could have stayed for a month.

The kids had so much fun playing in the creek and finding sticks and rocks!

We finished the month with an airshow. Here are two cute kids that had fun for most of the day but after several hours of sun, they were ready to go home.

Don't they all look cute in their sunglasses and hats?

This was the kids favorite plane. It was flown by a woman who got out of the plane dressed as Wonder Woman. She had red, white and blue smoke as well as fireworks! It is amazing what they can do in the aerobatic planes.
My daughter is out of school but my son has to go until Thursday. Oh how I can't wait for Thursday. It will be so nice to have a relaxed schedule for a few months. Summer here we come!

Friday Night Tacos

At the family reunion, we had a Friday Night Taco Night! We barbequed carne asada meat and grilled tortillas. We then made tacos! They were oh so good!

We want to make this a new tradition for Friday Night!

Friday Night Campfire

The Friday Night Campfire is the prelude to the big campfire on Saturday Night. People are arriving and come out to the fire to say hello and see who all is here. This Friday night it was on the chilly side so we never got a large crowd. But of course we had a good time with those who were there!

The Golf Tournament

I was looking forward to photographing the 2nd Annual DeGroat Family Golf Tournament on Friday of the Reunion weekend. That excitement changed rather quickly when I got to the golf course. Since I was not playing and neither were two other women in our group, we decided that we would meet up with the tournament on the ninth hole. We would go shopping and then I would photograph the back nine holes. When I got to the course I found our carts all lined up at the 10th hole ready to tee off. When the three of us and my 3 year old daughter showed up, we were greeted by a very somber group. I guess just before we got there, the course Marshall chastised the group for stopping for lunch. Their stopping for lunch, caused a back up of people and some unhappy old folks.
We didn't know what had happened, so we were sort of joking around and not really paying attention to the golf course etiquette. This of course only made matters worse! A three year old running around on the golf course doesn't make for happy golfers! My mistake!
I was clicking pictures of the foursomes in the carts as they were waiting to tee off. I was on the wrong side for taking pictures of them actually golfing, so I got a lot of backside. I will kindly refrain from posting those pictures!

Here is my husband and his cousin. They were both in a good mood and I don't think they knew all that had taken place.

These two, a cousin and his friend, played with my husband's group. They ended up coming in second place.

Next came two more cousins...

And another cousin and our adopted cousin! This group came in first place! Way to go girls, and guys too!

I thought this was a nice picture of the view from the tenth hole. Here one of the cousins has just finished teeing off. That is the ocean at the top of the picture. It is a beautiful hole to tee off from. Just before this picture, one of the cranky old men came and really let us have it. When he first started his tirade, he said, "What are you doing?" One of us late comers said, "Oh were having a party!" This was the WRONG thing to say! If it wasn't for one of the youngest members who did an excellent job at killing the old fart with kindness, it would have been ugly.
So us girls just left and went and had a nice lunch of fish tacos! So much for photographing the tournament!

Isn't this just a beautiful picture of a daisy? The colors were so gorgeous! Everything grows prettier and more colorful at the coast!

The Beginning!

Several families traveled to Morro Bay on Thursday so we could get a head start on the reunion weekend! Really it was so they could participate in the Second Annual DeGroat Family Golf Tournament the next day. It is a tradition for my family that the first day at the coast always means Fish and Chips for dinner. Our favorite place "The Fish Bowl" closed last year so we have been trying to find another place that had fish to equal theirs. It has not been easy! This night we were at a place called "Dockside". The food was pretty good, put the company was better! We had a great time catching up with some of the family. Our waiter took this picture for us.

And I hate to admit that this is my son! We told him we were going to change his last name to "Roberts" because he wanted a cheeseburger and not fish. This is a sacrilege in our family! "Roberts" is the last name of some distant relatives that hate fish. When they go to the coast that eat pizza and hamburgers. This picture made me laugh because my son loves pickles on his cheeseburgers. He asked the waiter if he could have extra pickles; was he happy when he got all those pickles. He ate most of them, too!

Playing Pirates

When my children woke up Saturday morning, they were so excited! They couldn't wait to go to the family reunion. Well they actually couldn't wait to go to the park next to the hall where we have the family reunion! And thank God they have a wonderful cousin who will go with them and play with them at the park.
They were having lots of fun playing pirates! The play ground equipment was their ship.

They took turns looking out for other scurvy pirates or other problems on the horizon.

And if they found problems ahead, they would escape through the secret hatch in the ship.

Sometimes they had to be brave and fight the bad guys on the bridge.

And when they got rid of them, they would be off sailing again. Looking to rid the seas of all scurvy pirates.
Thank God they had there trusty Big Cousin T to keep them safe!
